Sr. Optical Fiber Technician

Job Responsibilities:  
We are looking for a highly motivated senior technician with experience with optical fiber assemblies and more specifically fiber lasers. This position requires an individual with a positive attitude and the ability to work well in a dynamic development team environment. The chosen candidate will work closely with Fiber Laser engineers, Laser Technicians and Program Managers to develop new products, engineer product enhancements and develop fiber laser designs and processes. Working with the development team and transitioning preliminary pulsed FMOPA design into prototype initial rate production and eventually high rate, low-cost production.
  • Assist the R&D team with planning optical assemblies
  • Participate in design for manufacturing of the laser systems
  • Assemble fiber lasers and other fiber setups for the R&D team
  • Assist with the transfer of the assemblies into production
  • Help the production team to perform laser assemblies
  • Test and characterize the lasers
  • Automate optical testing and measurements using Labview
  • Request quotations from suppliers, place purchase orders, and do follow-ups
  • Participate in planning and coordinating the schedule for the optical assemblies
  • Keep an updated inventory of optical components
  • Additional responsibilities include system documentation
  • Support component specifications for critical items which may include tolerance determinations, simulations, and test for components
  • Designing, writing and assist in performing engineering validation and verification experiments and tests
  • Managing the bill of materials, assisting manufacturing to produce manufacturing procedures and test plans and trouble shoot manufacturing problems
Skills Required:
  • BS Degree or higher in optics, photonics, physics or comparable
  • Previous work experience with optical fibers and components
  • Knowledge of Labview, Python or comparable automation programming language
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Previous experience with fiber optic test equipment
Nice to Have:
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits and design
  • Experience splicing fiber optics preferable
